Jipbap
About the Collection
This collection reimagines the Korean tradition of banchan table settings through a 3-piece and 5-piece series.
The neutral stoneware set draws from the understated simplicity of the everyday Korean meal, where nourishment and sharing are at the center.
The celadon-inspired set reflects the refinement of historic Korean ceramics, echoing the jade-green glazes of the Goryeo dynasty that once elevated banchan to ritual and artistry.
Together, the pieces honor the balance between the humble and the ceremonial, the communal and the refined
Ties to Memories - Notes on the Collection
"JIPBAP" in Korean directly translates to "home meal" in english - but there's a cultural layer of sharing the warmth of steaming rice and banchan (side dishes) at a Korean table, where nourishment and love come together.
I often think of my Busan halmoni's (grandma) jipbap with her grilled fish and my maternal grandma's assortment of kimchi's, placing a piece on my rice and waiting for my reaction before she ate her portion.
Growing up in the states, I also ate my mom's jipbap - this daily ritual of eating dinner together as a family everyday carries a significance in building connection and grounding and is something I want to continue in my own family!
Although jipbap has no seasons, I waited to release this collection for colder days - to warm you up by sharing food over warm rice and soup with your loved ones :)
Hope you enjoy making all your favorite side dishes and plating them!
